Background
Cotton, Inc. is one of the largest trade associations for cotton producers in the world. Its mission is to ensure that American cotton is the #1 choice of consumers for clothing and home products. To that end, the organization manages a number of websites, one of which is www.thefabricofourlives.com (TFOL).
The Problem
The TFOL website needed a face lift that would make it easier for visitors to navigate the different sections of the site, and easier for Cotton Inc. to feature seasonal or new articles and highlight interesting resources in the site’s different sections.
One of the main barriers was a home-grown web content management system (CMS) for which there was little documentation.
The Solution
In order to gain an understanding of the site’s content management system, Webworld technical personnel had numerous discussions with Cotton’s developer for the website, and also performed a detailed analysis of the CMS in order to plan how the new look-and-feel would be implemented.
This analysis – which was a time consuming process – included setting up the Cotton CMS on Webworld’s own development servers so that the technical team could gain a first-hand understanding of the system. Based on this analysis, a technical plan was laid out to implement the new look-and-feel for the website.
Simultaneous with the technical effort, Webworld’s graphic designer worked with the TFOL manager and came up with an exciting new website design that aligned with their need to highlight specific content for the seasons and holidays.
The Results
Webworld delivered a dramatically enhanced look-and-feel for the website that has enhanced graphics and improved content organization, and which works with the website’s home-grown content management system.
